So, first things first we all need to remember '000' in Australia. 

 

What to expect when you ring '000' ? 

- At glance, an operator immidiately ask you 'police,ambulace or fire department' 

   DO NOT EXPLAIN 'WHY OR WHAT HAPPEN' HERE. JUST SIMPLY CHOOSE FROM ONE OF THESE OPTIONS 

 

- Let's say you asked for 'police' 

 

- Operator will ask you back 'which state you are in, and the specific area', not the address at this point. 

 

- Once you provide above informations,

  then the initial operator will refer you to the police department in your state and area. 

 

- A second operator will ask you then 'what happen, where is your address or specific situation' feel free to explain as you wish. 

 

For an international student, 

Do not afraid to call an ambulance as your OSHC is one of the top cover plan exist in Australia which in some point better than any covers for residnets. So ambulance is covered by your insurance no matter which companies. For emergency department, most of time, you gotta pay admimistration fee of $500~600 at the desk on your arrival in cash or card no matter what reason. But, it will be reimburse by your insurance company 100%.  (if you are under bupa umbrella; other companies might have different terms and conditions; required to check with your insurance). Most of treatment will be billed directly to your insurance or they might issue bills to you directly; either way, you can claim those bills to the insurance without pay your money. That's what the insurance for right? So, do not hesitate if you are in dangerous situation or requires a medical attention.

'000' 응급번호를 누르면 어떤 절차들을 기대해야 할까 ? 

1. 전화 연결자가 '경찰,응급차 또는 소방서' 어떤 서비스가 필요한지 물어본다. Hi, Hello 이런거 없고, 본인도 할 필요없다. 응급상황에서의 진행이기 때문에 나머지는 전부 시간낭비, 필요한 서비스를 바로 요청해라. 이 상황은 전화연결사가 필요한 서비스를 연결해주는 절차이기 때문에 상황을 설명한다거나 할 필요가 전혀 없다. 그냥 바로 뭐가 필요한지 단어로 이야기하면 됨. 

 

2. 경찰을 요청했다고 가정해보자. 

 

3. 경찰을 요청한 후에, 담당자가 본인이 현재 위치한 '주' 와 '지역' 을 물어본다. state 와 area 이다. 예를 들어 멜번 시내의 경우 주는 Victoria 지역은 Melbourne 이 된다. 

 

4. 위에 정보를 알려주면, 바로 전화를 건 사람의 주와 지역에 있는 경찰서로 연결해준다.

    가장 빨리 출동이 가능한 곳으로 연결하는 것이다. 엠뷸런스도 마찬가지다. 

 

5. 이제, 경찰관련 부처와 연결이 되었다. 여기서 무슨일이 있었는지, 왜 경찰이 필요한지 등등을 설명하고 자세한 출동 주소나 걸리는 시간들을 안내해준다. 필요한 만큼 설명하고 필요하다면 최대한 질문하면 된다. 

 

학생비자 소지자들이 대체로 응급차를 부르거나 응급실에 가는 것을 비용문제로 굉장히 꺼려하는데, 학생비자시에 무조건 받아야 하는 학생보험은 호주에서 가능 넓은 범위의 커버를 자랑한다. 왠만한 로컬들보다 더 좋은 보험이나 잘 사용하는게 중요하다. 일단 엠뷸런스는 무조건 커버가 된다 그러니 그냥 불러라. 응급실에 도착하고 나면, 응급상황 대체로 일반 의사가 아닌 전문의를 보는 것이기 때문에 도착과 동시에 $500-600불 정도는 현금이나 카드로 결제해야한다. (호주인들은 안냄) 하지만 이 금액은 그대로 보험회사에서 100% 돌려주기 때문에 (bupa 의 경우; 다른 보험사는 약간씩 다를 수 있으니 확인요망; 대체로는 커버해준다) 걱정말고 내라. 그 외에 치료비나 검사비용은 대부분 영수증 처리가 되는데, 병원에 따라서 바로 클레임 되기도 하고, 받은 영수증을 그대로 보험사에 제공하면 그 쪽에서 알아서 지불한다. 내가 낼 필요없음. 건강상 문제가 있거나, 급한 상황에서 참거나 머뭇대지 말고 빠르게 도움을 요청하길 바란다.
